ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington Public Schools canceled all extracurricular activities on Wednesday, according to a post on the APS official Twitter account.
Extended Dat at APS will remain open until 6 p.m., but families are asked to pick up their students as soon as possible.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch until 7 p.m. for Northern Virginia, DC and parts of Maryland.
The NWS also issued a flash flood watch for Arlington on Wednesday morning. The watch is in effect until Thursday morning.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to pass through the Washington, DC area on Wednesday morning, causing localized flash floods, according to the NWS.
Additional thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon and evening, bringing rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches and up to 6 inches in some areas.
