MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Dane County elementary and high school students from low-income families are encouraged to attend an event on Saturday to receive a bag full of new school supplies.
100 Black Men of Madison Inc. announced Wednesday that it will hold its 26th Back to School Celebration from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center. The event will be a drive-in, organizers explained, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is our 26th year. Over the past 26 years, we have donated backpacks of free school supplies to children in Dane County. We don’t want to test, we just know you are a child in need. You need school supplies, we want to get them to you, ”said JR Sims, vice president of 100 Black Men of Madison Inc ..
Elementary and middle school students accompanied by their parents will each receive a new backpack filled with school supplies until the group is exhausted.
Free COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for people ages 12 and older, in partnership with Walmart.
The City of Madison Clerk’s Office will also be present at the event to provide voter registration assistance to those in need.
“Being able to come to school feeling fully prepared and fully equipped is extremely important for developing a child’s confidence. And as we all know, if you look good and feel great, you will get better results. “
