Back to school: Supplies for needy students available during the school’s open house

August can bring back-to-school nervousness, but some families have the added anxiety of affording all of the items on their children’s school supply lists.

Through a community-wide effort led by Eden Prairie Community Education, every child at every Eden Prairie Schools (EPS) site can easily and quickly access the right supplies to succeed in school.

“Students can pick up supplies at back-to-school open houses across the district,” said Reta Johnson, PSE Family Resource Specialist. “Ask for the school supply program or speak with the school social worker. Supplies are also accessible throughout the year via the school social worker.

The dates and times of the EPS Open Houses are listed below as well as in the EPLN Community Calendar.

The supplies provided will correspond to each school’s specific list for each year.

While supplies are only for financially struggling families, there is no need to pre-register or verify income.

Families of children attending EP Online who need access to supplies, cannot attend the designated open house, or are new to the area should contact Reta Johnson at Reta_Johnson@edenpr.org or 952-475-7030.

Several churches in Eden Prairie have participated in the “Adopt a School” effort for the 2021-2022 school year.

Primary schools and Central Middle School were provided by Grace Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Perazim Church, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Westwood Community Church, and Wooddale Church.

The program is also supported by the Eden Prairie Schools Foundation, Eden Prairie Community Foundation, PROP, the district, several community businesses and individual donors, and other churches.

“This program would not be possible without the support of these generous donors,” according to the EPS Family Resources website.
