Rising cream? This week begins with 17-0 No. 3 Montrose, led by Luke Hutto and Trey Reese leading the team in EVERY statistical category, as they take on Fruita Monument.
5A No. 2 Fossil Ridge beat Rocky Mountains by five in early January. Expect this rematch to be just as good! The Sabercats’ 11-game winning streak is on the line in this one.
No top 10 action, but Rangeview is now 13-4 and earning a few top 10 votes in our poll. Tonight they tangle with Prairie View, which is usually fun in the EMAC action.
No. 4 Mead takes the defending champ’s show to Skyline.
Always fun city action with No. 3 Denver East taking on Thomas Jefferson. The Angels were on a 14-game winning streak until Regis came to town last Saturday and beat them by five. The Spartans better be ready, East will be hungry to get back to winning ways.
Longmont sits just outside our top 10 4As and takes on the No. 8 Holy Family in another solid 4A battle.
Pueblo Central, 15-2, has been dealing with a tough schedule recently and is looking to get back on track against rival Pueblo West.
Even though they suffered a loss last week, Windsor move to 4A No. 7 and look to beat Erie at home.
If we’re talking about getting to the top in Colorado hoops right now, you have to take a look at 17-0 Pueblo South, which shows they may not just be No. 1 in 4A, but one of the best teams overall. State! They see Pueblo East around 8 p.m. heading south!
Wednesday February 2
No shame in No. 5 Rock Canyon’s Friday night loss to No. 1 ThunderRidge, and this road test won’t be easy at Heritage where neither team can afford another Continental Championship loss.
Both with a solid 13-4 and with top-10 votes, Air Academy and Vista Ridge should be on the edge.
Centaurus, also 13-4, retains the No. 9 4A spot. They put their 3-game winning streak on the line against Silver Creek, which itself is a solid 12-4 on the season.
Mountain Vista, sitting just outside our top 10 5A garnering 32 votes this week, heads to Douglas County 14-3 No. 6. The Huskies are ranked and have the best overall record, but Vista has no only one defeat in the league, so it’s a big defeat for DougCo!
Smoky Hill fell a few spots to No. 9 in our poll after last week’s loss to Eaglecrest. At 6-2 in the league, they need this one against Arapahoe.
Wednesday usually means strong Rival Continental League action, and that holds true in Chaparral No. 4 heading to Highlands Ranch.
More continental! Regis, who retains the 5A No. 10 spot and is coming off the huge win over Denver East, can’t afford to be disappointed against Castle View in the league.
These Eaglecrest Raptors seem to be finding their groove at 13-4. With a seven-game winning streak and ranked No. 7, they again have a tough test at Overland.
Another HOT 4A team, Green Mountain, is on a seven-game streak and ranked No. 6 as it travels to Littleton.
Thursday February 3
The creme de la creme theme continues with our state’s best team at 16-1 (only loss coming out of state against St Joes CO in Alaska) ThunderRidge looking to stay spotless in state at the foe of the Legend League.
If you need a bit of “city vs. suburb” action, head to No. 4 Chaparral visiting George Washington. The Patriots will play with pride!
Pueblo Central is looking to stay hot, but it won’t be easy as Pueblo County visits with a solid 13-4 record.
Thursday nights are usually pretty quiet in the state, but No. 1 Pueblo South will again be worth the price of admission as they try to battle Pueblo Centennial down south.
Friday February 4
4A No. 7 Windsor is still tough in league action as he takes on Silver Creek.
Green Mountain is down to No. 7 and on a five-game winning streak, and will face an ever-ready gold team.
To the north, Fossil Ridge is looking to continue its run against rival Powder.
More of that top team dominance with No. 2 Lewis Palmer looking to add to his 17-1 record against Rampart. Rangers’ only loss came at 5A Chaparral this year, folks!
4A “top 10 alert”! Get your popcorn ready for No. 4 Mead at No. 8 Holy Family… let the rivalry and bragging rights begin!
No. 9 Smoky Hill heads to Mullen on Friday Night “Centennial Tough”!
More Centennial action with #9 Eaglecrest hosting the enemy A-Town Cherokee Trail.
Saturday February 5
Holy Family has little time to rest after Friday night’s huge game with Mead, as Sand Creek heads north on Saturday.
Mead isn’t off the hook either as they have to “put them on” after the battle with Holy Family and face a team of Falcons who come in at 10-4.
Interesting how Denver South will handle the rare visit to Rocky Mountain on a weekend afternoon!
Douglas County No. 6 is looking to continue an impressive season and continental play when Heritage comes to do so.
The FNE Warriors (the Bellos) will need to be in top form if they hope to have any chance of slowing down the Denver East No.4. It won’t be the classic we were used to from the “good old days”, but the pride of the DPL brings out the best.
No. 5 Rock Canyon ends the week against Castle View in the league.
5A “Top 10 alert!” Not just a game of the night contender, but it has the potential to be game of the week material when No. 1 ThunderRidge and No. 10 Regis go after some serious Continental League standings!
Whore ! Another action packed week. This weather is forecasted for us, but hoping it’s not too freezing for us “hoops heads” to get out and get our dose of CHSAA! And remember, always 72 and sunny in the gym!
