Cardinals star Kelvin Beachum surprises kids with school supplies for Christmas

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Cardinals tackle Kelvin Beachum surprised hundreds of kids with school supplies for Christmas. Beachum stopped at Sun Valley Academy in South Phoenix to deliver school supplies.

“Seeing the joy in their faces, the joy in their eyes, the joy of some of these teachers seeing some of these resources is something I look forward to,” Beachum said. “Being able to serve in any capacity is something I’m proud of.”

More than 500 students received a free backpack and essential school supplies.

“Not everyone has access — having some of these extra resources, so they have what they need when they go back to school, again, that’s super important,” Beachum said.

Just a day after playing in the rain and cold in Chicago, Beachum took time out of his day, so he was quick to give back.

“I gave my word that I was going to be here,” Beachum said. “I didn’t want to let them down. I told them I was going to be here. I’m glad to be here, no matter what I’m feeling right now. These kids love to have a special moment like this.

The school’s founder and CEO said events like this show there is a lot of love in the world.

“These types of giving times show kids that people care about the world, which should make them grow older,” said Tanae Morrison, Founder and CEO of Sun Valley Academy.

Beachum said her inspiration was not just to give back to students but also to teachers.

“American teachers need support. Providing resources for teachers: books, spirals, pencils, pens, whatever they need for the classroom is super important,” Beachum said.
