Supply chain issues can still cause problems for consumers, but the school supply chain has run like clockwork between the Autokiniton company and Tenniswood Elementary School.

Tenniswood Elementary School Principal Anthony Sedick said supplies donated by the company to the school can be used by all students in the building.

“Usually when we receive a large donation like this, it’s for general supplies to supplement K-5 learning,” Sedick said.

Autokiniton is a North American supplier of propulsion-independent structural automotive components and assemblies. The company has multiple locations in the United States and other countries, but it was the Clinton Township location that made the difference for students at Tenniswood Elementary School in the 2022 school year. -23. Tenniswood Elementary School is a building in the L’Anse Creuse Public Schools District, located at 23450 Glenwood Ave. in Clinton Township.

Dawn Bommarito is the human resources manager for the Clinton Township Autokiniton site. She said this was the second year that a company-wide project to collect school supplies from all sites had taken place and that it was the first year that Tenniswood was the chosen beneficiary of the country.

“We wanted to give back to the community and what better way than to give kids the tools they need for a successful school year,” Bommarito said.

Autokiniton Clinton Township began its school supply drive for Tenniswood Elementary School on July 18 and ended on August 22, with donations dropped off at the Bommarito office.

“We focused on primary school students, we collected items such as disinfectant, notebooks, folders, scissors, glue, pencils, markers, crayons, pencils, markers dry-erase,” Bommarito said.

She estimated that more than 200 items had been donated as part of the school supply drive, enough to fill two large boxes. Sedick said a school secretary was contacted by Bommarito over the summer and a mutually agreeable donation drop-off date was agreed upon.

“Once we had all of our items ready to donate, I contacted Lori Hamming, Secretary of Tenniswood Elementary, and we set up a day and time for me to drop off the items to her at school on August 25” , said Bommarito.

On August 26, Tenniswood Elementary School acknowledged the donation via Facebook. The school thanked Bommarito and Autokiniton Clinton Township for organizing the school supply drive from the workplace, noting that the supplies would be used this school year.

Bommarito said next school year’s school supply drive held in Autokiniton Clinton Township will once again benefit Tenniswood.

“After speaking with Lori about the needs of some of their students and the amount the teachers are doing for their students, we will definitely be working with them next year,” Bommarito said.
