Commonpoint Queens partners with nonprofit to provide school supplies to students in need –

Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center has partnered with Supplies for Success to ensure children have access to the supplies they need before the next school year.

On August 14, volunteers will gather supplies including backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, pencil case, folders, ruler, glue sticks, scissors, highlighter, a binder and filler paper. There will also be a handmade card wishing the children a happy school year.

Judy Vladimir, Vice President of Development, says

“It’s critical that children have the supplies they need to succeed in school,” said Judy Vladimir, vice president of development at Commonpoint Queens. “It levels the playing field, gives dignity to children and their families, allows them to fully participate in classroom activities, preventing them from losing focus or interest and possibly acting out.”

This is the second year that Commonpoint Queens has hosted a volunteer event with Supplies for Success.

Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center is dedicated to supporting the Queens community. Their programs cater to people from infancy through the later stages of life and focus on individuals’ ability to move to a place of longer-term safety.

Their programs consist of dozens of offerings, including adult and youth employment programs such as Ladders 4 Leaders (L4L), as well as the city-sponsored Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) .

Commonpoint Queens facilities include swimming pool and fitness center. There are also exercise classes, dance classes, youth sports programs, personal training, and other events for all ages.

There is also the Jack and Shirley Silver Hub, an adult employment center, which offers assistance to those entering the workforce with training programs in high-growth career areas.

In October, Commonpoint Queens will open its Youth Opportunity Center. Aimed at the youngest, programs will grant certifications in culinary arts, physical fitness, and more. Other programs include computer training. There will also be a creative arts studio and sound engineering studios. The new hub will be located in a high-tech space.
