Duval County cancels after-school activities Wednesday due to bad weather

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – As a national weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Jacksonville, Orange Park and Macclenny until 4:15 p.m., Duval County Public Schools announced Wednesday afternoon that all extracurricular activities would be canceled due to the approach of inclement weather.

This included athletics, orchestra, music and club meetings.

District Atlhetic Director Tammie Talley said “the safety of our student-athletes, coaches and fans is of the utmost importance.”

The district said activity buses would operate normally for students who use them to get around. The other students will stay at the school until the parents can pick them up.

After-school care programs, including extended days and Team Up, will run as normal, the district said, but parents have been urged to pick up the children early if possible.
