Elmira City School District donates school supplies

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – The Elmira City School District is providing school supplies for the school year. All K-12 students will receive a generous donation to help them succeed this school year.

The price of school supplies has skyrocketed in recent years due to pandemic-related supply chain issues. Retailers such as Walmart, Amazon and Target struggle to find space on shipping containers, leading most businesses to resort to expensive air freight. In order to make up for the money lost in transporting items to stores, retailers need to raise the prices of their products.

Fortunately, the Elmira City School District was able to purchase supplies such as pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, glue, markers and more for each student.

“The cost of school supplies can be huge…we wanted to be able to help our families and give them something so they don’t have to worry about going back to school.”

If you represent a community agency that would like to support Elmira families through a donation, please contact your student’s building superintendent or Beth Manwaring at the District Public Information Office at 607-735-3091 or bmanwaring@elmiracityschools.com.
