ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – First Impressions Barbershop and First Impressions Hair Design teamed up to host their annual back-to-school event in Roanoke on Sunday, where they gave away free haircuts and hairstyles, handed out school supplies and donated daily necessities .
“Everyone looks good, everyone feels good, so we just like to send everyone back feeling good and looking good,” said First Impressions stylist Aleshia Myers.
According to Myers, a new haircut can boost children’s confidence as they begin a new school year.
With the help of community partners, the event was able to carve more than 80 pairs of new children’s running shoes, distribute 100 bags full of hygiene products, perform approximately 300 haircuts and styles, and donate school supplies. to all the children who participated.
To organize an event like this on Sunday, August 21, organizer Danaisha Jackson says it takes a village.
“One person cannot do everything. With more than one person together, you can do a lot, and I found that to be incredibly true today,” Jackson said.
Jackson also said she hopes the support and participation in the event speaks to the character of the community as a whole.
“We come together as a community and do great things for our kids and for the community to get them ready for school and everything,” Jackson said.
The one-day event also included music and food to give the kids a little more summer fun before they hit the books again. Myers says they do everything for the love of children.
“That’s really what we’re doing it for — to see everyone smiling, everyone happy, everyone in good spirits,” Myers said.
