Free backpacks and school supplies in the Fort Worth area

The first day of school for many North Texas students is fast approaching and there are a few last minute events to grab free school supplies before Monday.

Students in Fort Worth and Arlington will return to class on Monday and kick off the 2022-2023 school year. Tarrant County Public Health is hosting a series of events in August for children who need to be vaccinated at school.

All back-to-school events take place this weekend. Here are a few to keep in mind:

Fort Worth ISD Resource Fair – Saturday

Fort Worth ISD to Host Polytechnic High School Family Resource Fair.

The event is an opportunity to promote community engagement, pride and enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. Families can expect services such as online registration assistance, backpack/book giveaways, district and community resources, vaccinations, music, games, and a food truck. restoration.

Fort Worth Church Back-to-School Fair – Saturday

St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth is hosting a back-to-school fair.

Families can expect free haircuts and giveaways of school supplies, face painting and other activities.

Arlington Police Department Gift – Saturday

The Arlington Police Department is hosting a back-to-school event at Clarence Thompson Park on Saturday.

Backpacks and school supplies will be available at the event, along with a bouncy house, free food and a live DJ.

  • When: 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday
  • Where: 1600 Brown Blvd, Arlington
  • Cost: Free

City of Grand Prairie Driving Backpack – Saturday

The City of Grand Prairie is hosting a drive-thru backpack donation to the Dalworth Recreation Center.

Families will walk through the Stanton Garden parking lot and receive backpacks full of school supplies. No registration is necessary for the event and there is a limit of two backpacks per vehicle.

  • Where: 2012 Spikes Street, Grand Prairie
  • Cost: Free

Fort Worth Back-to-School Party at Local Gym – Saturday

Trinity All Stars Gym is hosting a back-to-school party in support of teachers.

One item of school supplies per family is required to access the party, but all supplies will be donated to local teachers to use in their classrooms. Families can expect bouncy houses, food, drink, and an open gym to play in.

  • When: 5-8 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: 13039 Harmon Road, Suite 501, Fort Worth
  • Cost: Free, but one item of school supplies per family is required for entry.

Fort Worth Police Department School Supply Distribution – Sunday

The Fort Worth Police Department organizes a backpack and school supplies at the department’s sports league gymnasium.

In addition to backpacks and school supplies, there will be free haircuts, hot dogs and drinks.

  • When: 9 a.m. — 1 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: 1000 Calvert Street, Fort Worth
  • Cost: Free
