As children return to class this month for the start of a new school year, families can collect free school supplies and get their COVID-19 vaccine at the same time in East Palo Alto on Saturday.
Bags of supplies, including notebooks, pencils, erasers and masks, will be available. COVID-19 vaccines will also be offered during a school supplies distribution event from 9 a.m. to noon at 2043 Euclid Avenue, then from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Bridge Pop Park, at the corner of West Bayshore and Newell Roads.
The annual event is hosted by Woodland Park Communities, which is the community outreach arm of Woodland Park Apartments, a complex of approximately 1,800 apartments in East Palo Alto.
According to Teresa Morales, Head of Community Engagement at Woodland Park, Saturday’s event is part of a larger attempt “to bring resources to this community which has long been unable to fully access all the benefits. organizations and services that are across the highway. “
This year, organizers have scheduled the donation of supplies to coincide with a pair of weekly immunization clinics. Sutter Health will offer vaccines at the Euclid Avenue site and Stanford Health Care will provide vaccines near Bridge Pop Park at an existing vaccination site at 45 Newell Road.
