‘Friends of the Poor’ donated school supplies to locals

SCRANTON (WBRE/WYOU) — Friends of the Poor set up in 2 locations across Scranton to distribute school clothes, clear book bags filled with school supplies and even food bags for those in need.

Clear book bags are now mandatory in the Scranton School District at the start of this school year, so Friends of the Poor wanted to distribute as many as possible, so that no child has to start school without one.

A dozen University of Scranton volunteers took part in the back-to-school campaign today and Friends of the Poor told Eyewitness News the people of Scranton still need a little help.

They also had 2 additional locations set up around town to simply distribute food to families in need.

“I think right now people are struggling, paycheck to paycheck, and that little bump, or that little help, I think people appreciate it, and it’s needed, very needed. “, said Brian Williams, director of the Friends of the Poor program.

They will also be hosting another event on Monday, August 29.

The events will take place on August 29 at Valley View Terrance from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at Jackson Terrance from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
