The Albert Lea High School activities office announced Friday that Tyler Vogt will be the new wrestling head coach, pending school board approval.
Vogt has been teaching and coaching at Albert Lea since 2020. He teaches middle school physical education and DAPE at Southwest Middle School. He served as an assistant football coach (2020 and 2021 seasons) and assistant wrestling coach (2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons) for the high school. He was the head wrestling coach at Eau Claire Memorial High School during the 2019-20 season before moving to Albert Lea.
Vogt was a graduate of Owatonna High School, where he placed fifth in the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament. He obtained a degree in physical education/health/DAPE and a coaching diploma from UW-Eau Claire. Prior to Eau Claire, he wrestled for two years at Rochester Community and Technical College. At UW-Eau Claire, he was a captain for two years and a 2017 NCAA Division III Scholar All-American.
Vogt and his wife, Rebekah, recently purchased a house in Albert Lea and are expecting their first child in July.
“Tyler brings a lot of energy to the program and has had a positive impact in his first two years as an assistant,” said activities director Paul Durbahn. “He’s a hard worker and he’s very competitive. He’s completely immersed in the classroom and the sport of wrestling – we’re very excited to have Tyler in this new role!
