The Marin County Free Library and the First 5 Marin Children and Families Commission are running a summer learning and backpack distribution program.

Children and parents can visit various branches and places to take the library’s “Learning Bus” which will distribute backpacks with three bilingual books, pencil, paper, sharpener, pencils, a book. coloring pages and activities, colored markers, scissors, whiteboard with pen and eraser and more.

“Ensuring our youngest learners have access to tools that will make learning easier during the summer is essential,” said Pegah Faed, Executive Director of First 5 Marin. “The summer learning backpacks will provide fun learning activities to prepare them for the next school year. “

Students can visit different places to get backpacks and school supplies before the next school year.

“Partly that’s because kids get real backpacks, not just drawstring bags,” said Gabriella Calicchio, acting director of the library. “It will boost their self-esteem and confidence as they prepare to go to school – many for the first time. “

This week, the learning bus will be at the Fairfax Library at 10 am Monday; Mesa Park in Bolinas at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and at the Civic Center Lagoon Park at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays in San Rafael. The bus will be at the Corte Madera Library at 11 am on July 27; Novato Library at 10:30 a.m. on July 29 and at Rocky Graham Park in Marin City at noon on July 31.
