MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE HIGHLIGHTS FARMERS PARTICIPATING IN FARM-TO-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

(TRENTON) – New Jersey Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher announced today that registration has begun for farmers interested in participating in the Jersey Fresh Farm to School Farmer Recognition Award. The Recognition Award is an opportunity for farmers to recognize their farm-to-school efforts and provide resources to help them showcase their Jersey Fresh products at local school lunches.

Students in New Jersey schools benefit greatly from eating healthy local produce, but can also learn a lot from our farmers about how their food is grown,” said Secretary Fisher. “The Farmer Recognition Award is an opportunity to thank farmers who are already involved in farm-to-school activities and to encourage more farmers to connect with schools.”

Farmers can apply for the Jersey Fresh Farm to School Farmer Recognition Award 2022 program at www.farmtoschool.nj.gov. The deadline to complete and submit the application is March 31, 2022.

Participating farms will receive an exclusive kit of Jersey Fresh Farm to School promotional materials. One farm, selected from the group of recognized farms, will be presented as the 2022 Farm to School Farmer Recognition Award winner during Jersey Fresh Farm to School Week, September 26-30, 2022.

Farm to School provides hands-on, experiential learning opportunities to help students learn about local agriculture, how food grows, and what it means to eat healthy with fresh fruits and vegetables. To learn more, visit www.farmtoschool.nj.gov.
