NC Central coach and NBA player team up to give away school supplies, shoes and haircuts

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — It was a one-stop-shop for families Saturday morning.

From new school bags and school supplies to new shoes and fresh haircuts.

” It’s personal. When I was a child, my mother struggled financially during this time of year trying to support me and my brother to get back to school,” LeVelle Moton said.

For the Central North Carolina University basketball head coach, Saturday’s event was different for him.

It was the 13th annual back-to-school community day for LeVelle Moton and PJ Tucker at the Raleigh Boys Club.

“So trying often to get school clothes, shoes, a nice haircut, school supplies, school bag, paper, pens, etc.,” Moton said.

“[My mom] had to do it for two. And she was doing her best to make ends meet. So when I hosted an event, what I wanted to do was take all the worry and anxiety out of it for all the families. explains Moton.

Another familiar face was there to lend a hand as well. Raleigh native and New Orleans Pelican guard Devonte’ Graham stopped by during the event.

“It’s just about giving back to your community. Where we come from, many of us grew up without having much. For LeVelle [Moton] doing stuff like that is inspiring. It inspires me, which is one of the reasons I have my community day,” Graham said.

Graham will hold his Community Day Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at Fletcher Park in Raleigh after his basketball camp.
