The PD will distribute school supplies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to Philadelphia, Neshoba and Choctaw students in kindergarten through 12th grade, Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said.

The department accepted donations such as pencils, backpacks, shirts, glue and more from individuals and businesses.

“Everyone in Neshoba County is welcome,” Lyons said of their first-ever Back to School Bash.

Others are also welcome to attend the event and bring their children to interact with the police who will be at the event, Lyons said.

“We want the community to be more comfortable interacting with our department and the police,” Lyons said.

The event will feature jumpers, basketball, face painting, games and a dunk stand where kids can throw a ball and dunk a cop.

Police will also host a lunch including burgers, hot dogs, fries, drinks, ice cream and popsicles.

In addition to giving children and community members a chance to interact with police officers, Lyons said, the event will help children and families get much of the school supplies they need before school starts. in August.
