Raleigh Boys & Girls Club needs school supplies for Back-to-School Community Day

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – The Raleigh Boys and Girls Club needs donations for the 12th Back-to-School Community Day on August 14.

“Whatever you can think of, we need it,” said Lindsey Doerr, volunteer engagement manager at the Boys and Girls Club serving Wake County. “We have book bags; we just need things to put in the book bags.” Pencils, binders, pencils, your general school supplies, that’s what we need. “

Donations can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Friday at the Boys and Girls Club administration office at 721 N. Raleigh Blvd. in Raleigh.

Students attending the community day will receive a backpack to fill with the items they need. In addition to school supplies, free haircuts will be available as well as games and music. The event was a drive-thru event in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

“We actually had cars lined up and we handed out over 900 book bags full of school supplies to families,” Doerr said. “It was a bit higher, I will say, than in previous years, we were seeing around 700 to 750 people. So this year, we hope to maintain that number, just to help as much as possible.”

The Back to School Community Day event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Raleigh Boys and Girls Club at 605 N. Raleigh Blvd. in Raleigh.

Doerr is also in need of volunteers for the event. Click here to register as a volunteer.
