Schools will remain open during lockdown, which begins November 25 at midnight.

Students and accompanying adults are exempt from the curfew when going to and from school between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Schools will remain open despite the initial proposal of the expert group advising the Ministry of Health, which wanted to keep only kindergartens and the first four years of primary school open. All other classes and universities were to remain closed until December 3.

The proposal was blocked by the party of the junior coalition Liberty and Solidarity (SaS).

“Schools will be closed as a last resort. We insist that they be open, ”SaS Chairman and Minister of the Economy, Richard Sulík, quoted by TASR newswire said.

Still, the party supported the idea of compulsory testing in schools. The Ministry of Education wrote on Facebook that nearly 400,000 schoolchildren take tests in Slovak schools every week. Last week, the share of positive tests was 1.6%.
