Shasta County Child Support Services hosts their annual summer backpack and school supply drive to help children and youth prepare for school.
The agency collects donations of backpacks, pencils, pens, notebooks, markers, calculators, glue and other school supplies. The goal is to collect at least 200 backpacks and fill them with supplies.
People can bring donations to the agency’s office at 2600 Park Marina Drive in Redding through July 29.
Families can pick up a backpack in August at a drive-in event at Child Support Services.

Celebrate Juneteenth with a performance of historical dramas and presentations titled Voices of the Golden Ghosts, at Old City Hall from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at 1313 Market St. in Redding.
Theatrical performances chronicle African-American history in California—primarily in Shasta and Siskiyou counties—from the arrival of the Spanish to the Gold Rush. Speakers include Paula Percy of Redding

Opening of the Health Expo in Civic

The Redding Health Expo returns to the Redding Civic Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at 700 Auditorium Drive.
Activities include information and shopping at 120 booths, demonstrations, 2.5 and 5 mile races, a three-way basketball tournament, raffles, food trucks and music on the outdoor stage.
Admission is free with a fee for some events.
