Tens of thousands of school supplies donated to Charlotte fire stations – WSOC TV

Over the past two months, the community has donated tens of thousands of school supplies to the Charlotte Fire Department barracks.

The department partnered with WSOC-TV for the annual 9 School Tools campaign and collected school supplies from residents of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

“We are part of the community, and many of our neighbors have been affected financially because of Covid and the pandemic, so we want to be able to provide for people who are not able to support themselves,” said said Chief Reginald Johnson, Charlotte Fire Department.

While school supplies were collected from 43 fire departments in the Charlotte Fire Department starting in July, the fire department handed over the largest donation today to Classroom Central.

Along with firefighter mascot Blaze and Lady Katherine “Cat”, the first official therapy dog of the Charlotte K-9 Fire Department, firefighters from Station 13 traveled to help unload tens of thousands of school supplies. that were given.

“It’s very important that a student can go to class and have bags of books and school supplies and not have to worry about what they don’t have,” Johnson said. “It helps their confidence, their self-esteem and they’re able to pay more attention in class, which is exactly what we want. “

“We really have to thank the community for coming together and being able to provide tens of thousands of items to students in need,” Johnson said.

This was the 25th annual 9 School Tools collection, in partnership with Classroom Central and Communities in Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the WSOC-TV 9 School Tools program collected school supplies, which are then distributed free of charge to students in the kindergarten to grade 12.

All materials distributed to Classroom Central are provided to help create inviting learning environments and support the academic and personal growth of students whose families do not have the resources to purchase school supplies.
