STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Specialized High School Admission Test (SHSAT), which is used to offer admission to eight specialized high schools in New York City, will take place in December.
Students are offered admission to all eight schools based on their SHSAT score. Students in New York City typically take the exam in October.
These schools are: Staten Island Technical High School in New Dorp; Stuyvesant High School; Bronx High School of Science; Brooklyn Latin School; Brooklyn Technical High School; High School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering at City College; High School for American Studies at Lehman College; and Queens High School for Sciences at York College.
Current eighth and ninth graders who live in the five arrondissements can participate in admissions to specialized high schools during the 2021-2022 school year.
Registration will be open for the exam in mid-October. The precise registration dates are to come.
On this occasion, each student will receive a personalized welcome letter by post which includes information on how to access the MySchools account and participate in admissions to specialized high schools and high schools.
All registered students will take the exam in December. Specific test dates and other information will be available soon.
After passing the SHSAT, students will be considered for admission.
During the registration and submission periods, you can apply to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts by submitting a portfolio and auditioning in a talent area for up to six different studios: fine- arts and visual arts; vocal music; instrumental music; Dance; drama; technical theater.
LaGuardia High School also takes student academic records into account. SHSAT is not used for admission to LaGuardia.
The results are released in the spring as part of the offer letter for high school. Once posted, letters of offer and information can be viewed in a MySchools account.
Your high school offer letter will include up to one offer from the high school application process, along with any special high school results and / or offers for the special high school and / or LaGuardia high school testing.
