Waco Police Department Distributes Free School Supplies and More

It seems that just a few weeks ago the children were leaving school for the summer. Now, in a few weeks, they will return to class.

First day of school for Waco ISD students is Monday, August 23rdand the Waco Police Department wants to make sure students have everything they need to start the school year off right.

The idea for the first annual Back to School Bash came from Waco’s new police chief, Dr. Sheryl Victorian. She told staff that,

“I want them to come to us…”

Officer Sofie Martinez is a crime prevention officer with the Waco Police Department and said it was important for Chief Victorian to host the back-to-school party at Waco Police Headquarters on Pine Avenue.

Martinez says they will donate food, school supplies, as well as free haircuts and free vaccinations for children in need.

“And of course we’re going to have static displays, our police department SWAT, K9, our Camaro recruiting, Waco ISD bring in some cars. We’re going to have Waco Fire, our Crime Stop vehicle is going to come out and we’re going to have a soaking booth .

Which means you’ll have a chance of dunking an officer or maybe even the Victorian leader.

The back-to-school party takes place tomorrow, August 7e from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waco Police Headquarters, 3115 Pine Avenue.

They ask people to wear a mask and children must be accompanied by an adult. Parking will be available at Macarthur and Pine. For more information on the Back-To-School Bash, check out the Waco Police Department page on Facebook.
